(December 2, 2016) – The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) released the December 2016 Para Taekwondo World Rankings which have seen a couple of changes following the outcome of the 2nd Oceania Para Taekwondo Open Championships.
The 2nd Oceania Para Taekwondo Open Championships was held in Suva, Fiji on November 27, 2016. 12 athletes from 6 countries from 4 continents took part in this final Continental Para Taekwondo Open and the last international Para Taekwondo event of 2016. The Oceania Para Taekwondo Open Championships also saw Poomsae P20 (intellectually impaired) for the first time and P30 (motor impaired) classes compete for the second time.
Chinese Taipei made international debut in Para Taekwondo where Wei-en Haung obtained gold medal in the P33 male division.

Notable changes in the World Rankings following the results of the Oceania Para Taekwondo Open Championships include:
- Chikara Ito from Japan, climbed from 23rd to 18th after winning bronze medal in the men’s K44 under 61kg division
- Corbin Stacey from USA, won the men’s K44 over 75kg final and gained two places to become the new World Number 2. He will be chasing Ivan Mikilic from Croatia for the No.1 spot.
- Enkhtuya Khurelbaatar from Mongolia beat new athlete from Australia Kara Fournie in the golden point round of the K44 female under 49kg final. Khurelbaatar won the Asian and Oceania Para Taekwondo Open and will enter 2017 with much higher hopes as World Number 3.
- Steven Currie from Australia jumped from 12th to 5th after beating Poland’s Damian Kubiak in the final of the men’s 42kg under 75kg and will be seeking more success in 2017 and forward
